A pine box with personality. It's early, dating to ca mid-1800s. The paint is original, as are the hand wrought iron fittings. The latch has the number 3 punched into it. Hinges have rose head nails. Dovetails at the corners. The box is heavy and solid. There are here and there signs of age and use, such as paint that is weathered and chippy throughout and a missing bit of wood on the bottom. However, this box is secure and can be used as intended with confidence. It displays beautifully, too, with a splendid homey presence. I think for the fall, it would look terrific with its top propped open and bundles of dried flowers inside. Change them over for fresh evergreens during the winter. 12" x 7" x 7 1/2".
