Mammals, insects, reptiles, amphibians and fish all enjoyed immense popularity during both the Georgian and Victorian eras. However, it was the Georgian period in which the salamander held an impressive influence in the art world. Symbolizing creativity and renewal, the salamander motif was used in art, fashion and jewelry making.

Our antique Georgian cut steel bead Salamander brooch dates to c1770-1800. The beads are individually riveted and the pin shaft on the back is very long - two good indicators of age. In exceptionally fine condition, with no damage. So often the feet show damage, but all is wonderful on this period brooch. The c-clasp pin at back is secure and in good working order. 2 5/8"L X 3/4"W.  SOLD
