A big, beautiful gros point pin cushion measuring about 6 1/2" X 5 1/2". It is meticulously worked in wool, about 12 stitches per inch. The needlework shows a small parrot perched in a flower basket on a table top or maybe within a wide, shallow bowl or dish. The colors, though distinct, are faded from the original, save for the date 1875 which is stitched in a strong, true red, untouched by the years. Backed with black cotton and hard stuffed, the pin cushion is in lovely condition. The only wear to the wool is at the very bottom of the pin cushion ~ a couple of small, unobtrusive areas of subtly worn stitches. A pin cushion, fit for an advanced collection; for anyone who loves antique sewing, early pin cushions or parrots.
