How many doll dresses have you seen with gigot sleeves?  Rare as the teeth of hens ~ but this dress has them.  A piece of American fashion history in a doll-sized creation.  The dress is made of quality cotton with a great diamond motif print on an off-white ground. The diamond shaped lattice print is in teal and light mustard. The fabric is crisp and clean.

Hand stitched throughout. The neckline of the bodice is a wide scoop. In the early 19th century, this was the fashion, along with gigot sleeves, and the lady wearing the gown would most likely wear a fichu or lace at the neck. The natural waist has a waistband in this dress and the skirt attached has knife pleats at the waist for fullness. The bodice is gently ruched at the waist, as was the style back then.  There's a central back closure with no fastenings sewn in, as made. The overall condition is very good. The cotton is stable and the construction sturdy. There are various color mellowings and darkenings throughout, due to exposure to light, prolonged storage and the simple passing of time.  It also looks like some sad iron scorching to a few areas in the back.  The dress is done with vegetable dye, which reacts in different ways to different environments and to time. There is a tiny, tiny hole in the front, about 3" up from the hem. There is a larger hole in the back, alongside of the center opening, up by where the shoulder blade would be, a shade less than 1/2" in length and very narrow. Could easily be darned.  Originally, the bodice was lined with a very delicate muslin, which has shredded and is mostly missing at this point.

This marvelous early doll dress measures 19 1/4" mid-shoulder seam to hem; chest 14"; waist 10"; hips full; sleeve from neckline to cuff hem 8". Your doll will look divine in this gown.  And your peg rack would look divine holding this gown.
