One of the nost handsome antique cameos we've ever handled, this classical silhouette of a young man is carved from black and white onyx. It dates to the mid-19th century. So masterfully cut, there are areas of the white onyx that are virtually translucent, giving a mystical quality to the subject. The frame is perfect in its simplicity. Made of 14kt gold, it is a quality frame yet doesn't interfere with the attention the cameo alone should be getting. Perfect match! The framed cameo measures just a shade under 1 1/2" long and 1" wide. The gold bail adds another 1/4" to the drop. The piece is secure and you can wear it as often as you like. I can see it being hung on a lovely gold chain and worn as a most striking necklace, and I would also like to suggest hanging it from a period gold watch pin, and wearing it as cameo brooch. A marvelous pendant, without a flaw and fit for the finest exhibition.
