An enchanting little cap for a baby or small child, made of silk satin and studded with glass beads, all original, present and intact. If you look at the portrait of "Baby Stuart" (Sir Anthony Van Dyck, 1599-1641), you will see a cap of similar style. Baby Stuart was son of Charles I of England.
Our baby cap was designed with as much care and skill as would have been given an adult hat. Each side and the crown of the hat has a beaded plume or design reminiscent of a fleur de lis. Lined in silk faille and with a darling little trim of Valenciennes lace, this hat was custom made and hand-sewn, 19th century.
This cap is in lovely condition, with the original white turned a rich cream with age. Some signs of age to color of lining, and the slightest of yellowing to the lace. 13" side to side, 9" front to back. There are no chin ties and appears that there never were any chin ties. This would make an outstanding statement if used on a large doll. Perfect for the collector! Free USA Shipping, Handling, Insurance
