A lovely portable book that people in the 19th century would carry with them on their excursions in carriages, trains, on horses and on foot. A mere 3 1/2" tall and 2 3/4" wide, this book is in French. It was published in Paris, by Librairie Payot Et Cie, 106, Boudevard St-Germain, 106. Covered in beautiful calico that dates to c1830-60.
Napoleon dedicated this book to his mother, in an endearing quote on the dedication page that translates roughly to, "This is for my mother, whose high standards have enabled me to do well in fortune and deeds. I do not hesitate to say that the future of a child depends upon his mother."
The book is in delicate condition, with the two back pages listing other Bibliotheque Miniature titles separated from the spine. There are a few mild moisture marks, mainly on the first few pages in the book. The fabric covering the spine and the thin cover of the spine are separating from the spine, as you can see in the first picture. The book has 94 pages, all of which are present and attached. Being that this is rag paper, there is no mold or fungus or mildew on the pages. Absolutely gorgeous fly pages, pictured here. A very dear portable book for those long journeys. Was $40, now $28.
