**PLEASE NOTE: THE PRICE IS FOR THE ENTIRE SET OF 6 RACEHORSES AND THE TRACK GAMEBOARD CLOTH*
Exciting things have arrived at Home Farm. This is a vintage horse racing game and these are rare as the teeth of hens, especially the complete games. Ours is complete. And ours is of Folk Art quality, combined with the fun function of a fun game. These horse racing games were played aboard cruise ships in the 1930s-50. I can remember my parents bringing me on Caribbean cruises in the early 50s. I would eagerly await the afternoons, when they would hold the "horse races". Passengers would love it! They would assemble on deck, surrounding the game. Bets would be placed and they would hoot and holler for their pony to win ~ just like Churchill Downs or Saratoga!
We found our racing game in the attic of an old Victorian house being torn down, in the Mid-Hudson Valley. It dates to the earlier part of the mid-20th century, c1930-50. It is in really good condition.
The game has six wooden ponies, each with its jockey mounted. The pieces are all carved wood, not composit. Each is painted and numbered. All six original horses are present. Three horses are mounted on cylindrical pedestals and these horses have real horsehair tails. There are three mounted on carved block of wood and these have carved wood tails. On some, the jockies are seated straight; others have jockeys hunched in the racing position, over the horse's head. Each has his own personality - and plenty of it. Along with the six horses comes their original game board, a show-stopping 28.5' of red and white striped canvas or duck cloth. A real eye-catcher. There are thin green lines marking off the different spaces each horse can move. Price of $725 is for entire set. SOLD
