A fine etching of George Washington done by Jacques Reich in tribute to the iconic portrait done by Gilbert Stuart. Beautifully matted and framed and in beautiful condition. 15" X 12" (framed), with visual image of 5 3/4" X 4 1/2". Signed with the portrait title G Washington and with the name of the artist. Jacques Reich (1852-1923) was a portrait etcher, born in Hungary but mainly active in the United States. He studied in New York, Philadelphia and in Paris under noted painters William-Adolphe Bouguereau and Joseph Nicolas Robert-Fleury. In 1880 Reich returned to America; in the early 1890s, he turned to etchings on copper and specialized in this field for over a quarter of a century. His series of famous Americans included some 25 subjects. The original of this engraving is in the archives of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Its size is 14 7/8” x 11 3/8”.
