Our three-legged, splay-legged footstool was home made during the Depression, c1930s. The wool applique cover on the seat pre-dates the footstool. This is what makes this primitive footstool so appealing and collectible. Vivaciously designed, home made, the applique dances with hearts and crescent moons and embroidered starbursts. Made of men's wool suiting pieces during the last part of the 19th century. The textile is in very good condition; the reason for this is because it was upholstered over by another piece of fabric. The other fabric protected it through generations of use.
The footstool itself was put together in the early part of the 20th century. A sturdy, folky footstool that will fit in anywhere. It's versatile, too. Use it as a footstool, a close-to-the-fire seat, a low table holding a cup of tea beside your chair. Put it on your harvest table as part of a grand centerpiece and at Christmas, put Santa's cookies on it. 12 ½”H X 15 ½” diameter.
